I purchased my 928 in Jan 2015 from a dealer in Essex. Sadly neglected and un loved it had been on their forecourt for months with little or no interest. Having had a very short test drive (knowing that it needed a timing chain and water pump), I knew I had to have it. It was certainly not a head decision and perhaps I should have walked away as there were a host of things needed to be done to get her roadworthy and reliable. Now 9 years later and I'm nearly there, just a few things to finish. The 1.4 litre 205 XS is a lesser-known, but mildly sporting, example of the 3 door range that was always dominated by the more popular 1.6 & 1.9 GTi models. However, the torquey engine and close ratio gearbox gives it a good turn of speed until it reaches the national speed limit, at which point the engine does start to sound a bit “busy”. The same spec engine was also fitted to the four door SR & GT variants. Despite being 35 years old, this example was purchased by the current owners in 2019 to use on runs as a “modern classic”, having previously owned one back in the ‘80’s when the model was current.
