Model: Mark Ten X
Reg: ACO 589A
Year: 1963
Colour: British Racing Green
Engine Capacity: 3.8

Details
Introduced in 1961 the Mark X received a unitary body-shell, codenamed "Zenith. Its floor pan remained in production albeit in elongated form, until 1992. The Mark X was the first Jaguar saloon to feature independent rear suspension. Power initially came from the E-type's version of Jaguar's 3781 cc XK in-line six-cylinder engine developing either 250 bhp or 265 bhp depending on the compression ratio specified. Weighing in at 1,900 kilos, (just shy of two tones), stopping power came from four-wheel disc brakes, with the rear brakes being mounted inboard. The 3.8-litre, triple carburettor engine gave Jaguar's flagship saloon a top speed of 120 mph and capable handling at less than half the price of Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. The Mark X was superseded by the 420 G in October 1966. The Mark X is now a rare sight with very few remaining as road registered and whilst arguably less sleek than the Mark 2 cars of the same era, it should be remembered that the Mark X was the ultimate "Big cat" of its time, and is a good opportunity to own a big engine "Swinging Sixties" Jaguar Saloon at a modest outlay. First registered in November 1963 (A Suffix) this Mark X finished in British Racing Green with Beige Hide, has spent most of its life in Cornwall and the original Buff Logbook is present and several old MoT's right up to the date of going into storage in 2007 which would suggest the recorded mileage of 66,500 miles is likely to be correct. At this point kept in dry storage as part of ‘The Warwickshire Collection’ of interesting cars. Bought in 2023 the Jaguar has received professional major recommissioning of brakes, steering and engine to bring the car back on the road whilst retaining plenty of ‘patina’. It is always bound to generate conversations, although you do need quite a big parking space. -

Originally the company car of a hardware shop owner, he took it into retirement and kept it for some 8 yrs. A further seven owners ; one who had major body repairs done to combat the rust they all had. The owner before me spent some £30k on suspension and subframe issues before his expanding collection meant there was no time for the Mk2. I needed a bigger car than my TR3 as I did long distance European tours and on my first trip, the piston rings broke. I have now spent to date £143k ; a large part is due to the poor quality of parts across all the makes. I used to drive 3500 miles a year and last year it was 2306 miles and 10 Swiss mountain passes. Now, at 83 and with some health issues, it will be less. I thank Southern Classics at Twickenham for maintaining and improving the car and look forward to the next adventure. -

Daimler's only sports car! This has the Edward Turner designed V8 which also went into the Daimler V8 250 saloon. Voted the ugliest car at the 1959 New York motor show, it certainly is a 'marmite' car. Originally manufactured in 1960, I purchased it in 2016 and completed a body off rebuild in 2019 including several modifications such as a servo assisted clutch, rack and pinion steering and an overdrive gearbox all of whcih make it a much more pleasant car to drive. -
