ECW 834D is one of only 21 RHD MK1a Tigers manufactured in the UK. Watch out for ECW 834D in the BBC series Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. It's in three different episodes. In 1962 Formula 1 champion Jack Brabham proposed to Rootes competition manager Norman Garrad the idea of fitting the Sunbeam Alpine with a Ford V8 engine Carroll Shelby began work on a prototype in California in April 1963 and by the end of the month it was ready for trial runs around Los Angeles. It was provisionally called the Thunderbolt. Sunbeam Tigers were built for Rootes in the UK by Jensen Motors. Just over 7000 were built between June 1964 and Dec 1966 most of which were exported to the U.S.A. The MK1a Tiger is fitted with a 260 cu in (4.2ltr) engine giving a 0 – 60mph time of 8.6 sec and a top speed of 120mph. -

Austin Mini Cooper Mark I (998cc) DLH76C was completed on 18th February 1965 and dispatched to Cliftons garage in Lee, South London on the following day. Its first owner was Mr John McCormack from Sidcup, Kent who had the car for 20 years. It was first registered on 25th February 1965, the original specification being an old English white body with black roof and interior trim was red with gold brocade. The car has had eight owners and was off the road from 1992 to October 2023, many owners holding onto the car for very short periods. In 2014 the car was purchased by Richard Hunter, who did most of the work on the body. We purchased the car from him, travelling twice to East Yorkshire to do so. Basically, we purchased from him a body in very good condition, requiring only the fitting of doors, bonnet and boot lid and then painting. We had it professionally prepared and sprayed by Bailey body shop in Westerham, Kent. Most parts of the Mini were bought as part of the deal, so we had a rather large Meccano kit to complete in order to finish the car! The interior was missing, so we travelled to Suffolk to Newton Commercial just before lock down to pick this up. All chrome parts needed re-chroming to bring them up to standard. The engine had been converted to unleaded and the head skimmed, but essentially had to be reassembled. We had never done this before, so we took the completed unit to Phil Anning at Anning Race and Restoration at Ham Street, Kent for him to check it and put it on a dyno machine. Much to our surprise the dyno confirmed that the engine’s BHP was 55, as per the original specification! The three synchromesh gearbox had been professionally rebuilt with new bearings and lay gear, so all we had to do was fit it to the engine and then put it in the car – according to YouTube a twenty minute job, which took us the best part of two days! The car has been returned to original specification throughout, with the exception of replacing the hydrolastic suspension with dry cones and Cooper S specification 7.5 inch front disc brakes. -
